๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ‘‘ Contrasting The Twelve Apostles And Paul

In contrasting the ministry of the twelve apostles with that of the Apostle Paul, we must observe carefully:

ยท The twelve were chosen by Christย ON EARTHย (Lukeย 6:13) while Paul was later chosen by Christย IN HEAVENย (Acts 9:3-5; Acts 26:16).

ยท Prior to Paulโ€™s conversion the twelve had known Christ onlyย ON EARTHย (I John 1:1). Even at His ascension to heaven โ€œa cloud received Himย OUT OF THEIR SIGHTโ€ (Acts 1:9). But Paul knew Christ onlyย IN HEAVEN, having never seen Him on earth (Acts 26:16; I Cor. 15:8).

ยท The twelve represented their own nation.ย The number twelve has no connection with the โ€œone Bodyโ€ of Christ. As we know, Jacob of old โ€œbegat theย twelve patriarchsโ€ (Acts 7:8). From these sprang theย twelve tribesย of Israel. These tribes hadย twelve princesย over them (Numbersย 1:16). Even when Israel was ruled by kings there were still to beย twelve princesย โ€” one over each tribe (I Chronicles 27:22). Thus, as He went forth proclaiming โ€œthe gospel of the kingdomโ€ our Lord choseย twelve princesย for theย twelve thronesย in the kingdom to come (Matt.ย 19:28).

On the other hand, Paul, asย oneย apostle, represents the โ€œoneย Body,โ€ the Church of today (Rom. 12:5; I Cor.ย 12:13; Eph. 4:4). However, he was both aย born Hebrewย and aย born Roman, so represented believing Jews and Gentiles โ€œreconciledโ€ฆunto God in one body by the crossโ€ฆโ€ (Eph.ย 2:16).

ยท The twelve were sent to proclaim Christโ€™s kingdomย โ€œat handโ€ย (Matt. 10:7), and later toย offerย its establishment on earth (Acts 3:19-26). But Paul was sent to proclaimย โ€œthe gospel of the grace of Godโ€ย (Actsย 20:24), while the kingdom is held in abeyance.

ยท The ministry of the twelve was based onย covenant promisesย (Isaiah 60:1-3; Luke 1:70-79; Acts 3:22-26). Paulโ€™s ministry wasย notย based on covenant promises, but wholly onย the grace of Godย through Christ (Rom. 3:21-28; 5: 20,21; Eph. 1:6,7; 2:7; etc.). source

Moses Victor Zirabamuzaale

Brethren I count it joy whenever I read a passage and find out how God loved us before even the world was, in the ministry of Jesus Christ of Nazareth while on Earth with the twelve it’s very clear that God had sent him to fulfill the sayings of the prophets meaning that isreal as a Nation was choosen by God on behalf of us all over the world, however it’s imperative to note that though Jesus Christ of Nazareth came the law of Moses still prevailed among the tribes of Israel and the gospel of John the Baptist made… Read more »

Bible Verse for 11/30/21

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, — 2 Peter 3:10-11
