πŸ‘‘ God’s Voice And Our Feelings

I believe that God speaks only through His Word today. Since His word is complete, that means He has said all that He has to say about everything. All that’s left is for us to apply what He has said to our situations. We don’t need Him to speak again to do that. If He did speak again, we might not recognize the voice, but we would recognize the words, for they would be the words of Scripture. He wouldn’t have any different advice if we asked Him about a specific situation.

Feelings can’t always be trusted. The classic illustration is when Isaac erred by allowing himself to trust his feelings rather than what he heard (Genesis 27:21-25). We should never trust our feelings rather than what we hear from God’s Word.

But that mostly applies to someone that doesn’t know the Word. You see, feelings are always based on applying what we learned in the past to the problem we’re facing in the present. And if you are someone who has read and studied the Word of God carefully, then the feelings you feel are influenced by the Word.

Having said that, your feelings are also influenced by what Paul calls your old man, the man you were before you were saved. That’s why feelings alone can’t always be trusted. You still have to check with the Word for guidance.
