It stopped me dead in my tracks.
At the height of the pandemic my wife was watching the news, and as I passed through the room, I heard some expert being interviewed about the coronavirus. She said, βIf youβre not stressed by all of this,Β thereβs something wrong with you!β Her words stopped me cold, for I remember thinking, βNo, if youβre not stressed by all this,Β thereβs something right with you!β
You see, the apostle Paul says we should βrejoice in the LordΒ alwayβ and βbe carefulβ (orΒ full of care) βfor nothing,β but ratherΒ pray about βevery thingβ (Phil. 4:4-6). If you can do that, he promises that βthe peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesusβ (Phil. 4:7).
The reason we can always rejoice in Christ is that βGodβ¦ hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly placesβin Christβ (Eph. 1:3), and those immutable blessings cannot be altered by circumstances. They standΒ imperviousΒ in the face of any and all of the unsettling things that can happen in our lives. Thatβs what enabled Paul to offer us βthe peace of God, which passeth all understanding.β
So βacquaint now thyself with Him, and be at peaceβ and βthereby good shall come unto theeβ (Job 22:21). In times like we just endured with the Covid-19 virus, even many believers felt too stressed to be blessed. But in reality, we are βtoo blessed to be stressed,β as a popular Christian saying has expressed so well. βThe Lord of Peace Himselfβ is willing to βgive you peace always by all meansβ (2 Thes. 3:16), but you have to be willing to always βrejoiceβ in your blessings toΒ maintainΒ that peace.
So in times of turmoil, remember to keep Godβs reassuring words in mind: βBe still, and know that I am Godβ (Psa. 46:10). Thatβs the very definition of being βcarefulβ orΒ full of careΒ βfor nothing.β It is the exact nature of being spiritually minded, and βto be spiritually minded is lifeΒ and peaceβ (Rom. 8:6).
In short: if youβre not stressed in times of turmoil, thereβs somethingΒ right with you, not wrong! source
